A village and temple town in northern Karnataka, India is called Hampi. It is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as the Group of Monuments at Hampi. It is in the remains of the old capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, the city of Vijayanagara. Hampi sightseeing includes the beautiful Virupaksha Temple and several other buildings from the old city that were there before Vijayanagara. On the banks of the Tungabhadra River stands Hampi.

Bangalore is 353 km away. The buildings that are still standing in Vijayanagara or Hampi can be put into three categories religious, civil, and military. Other well-liked attractions in Hampi include the Jain temples on Hemakuta Hill, the two Devi shrines, and other structures in the Virupaksha temple complex. Hanuman worshippers visit Hampi because this is where the mythical Kishkinda, the monkey country, was located. There are many paintings and designs of Hanuman all over the sites, some of which are very colorful. From Bangalore, you can arrange a trip with a fantastic Hampi tour package

Brief History

For more than 200 years, Hampi was the capital city of the powerful Hindu Vijayanagar Empire, which covered all of southern India south of the Tungabhadra River. Due to its control over southern India’s cotton and spice trade routes and its kilo-for-kilo trading of valuables like gold and pearls, the city was a significant trading hub. The rulers fortified the country and used their money to build a beautiful city with palaces, temples, markets, streets, monuments, and monolithic statues. After the empire’s best king, Kishnadevaraya, died in 1529, the kingdom fell quickly to the joint armies of the Muslim rulers of the Deccan, who lived nearby. The city was destroyed and robbed, and it is now in ashes. Around 1 CE, when the Ramayana was written, this area was known as Kishkinda, which means the monkey kingdom.” Hanuman, a Hindu deity, was born here.

How to Get There

The closest airports are Bellary/Ballari and Hubli, both of which are two and a half hours away. From there, you’ll need to take a bus or a cab to get where you’re going. The nearest train stop is in Hospet, which is about half an hour away. Several times a week, trains from Bangalore and Goa stop in Hospet overnight. You can also get to Hospet by bus from Bangalore, Goa, Mysore, and Gokarna, all of which are in Karnataka. The train is much better and more comfortable, though. You can take a bus or an auto-rickshaw from Hospet to Hampi. The neighborhood buses run often and are cheap. They are better than a long, dusty ride in an auto-rickshaw.
