What does a pelvic floor physiotherapist do?

A pelvic floor physiotherapist evaluates patients who have problems with their pelvic floor muscles. They will treat these patients by using different exercises.

Patients with damaged muscles will undergo a rehabilitation program to get their muscles back into shape. After this process, patients will no longer experience any symptoms related to the pelvic floor muscles.

If you have been diagnosed with damage to your pelvic floor, you should start the rehabilitation process. This can be done by getting into a good position. Your physiotherapist will make sure that you pelvic floor physio are lying down on your back and looking straight ahead.

They will then place cushions under your knees to lift your pelvis off the floor. After this, they will stretch out your hips and buttocks. While stretching your legs, the therapist will gently tap your lower back with their hand. The goal is to stimulate your sacrum to allow it to regain its normal shape.

Your pelvic floor physiotherapist will also evaluate the muscles of your pelvis. They will do this by pressing down on your pubic bone and the area between your genitals and tailbone. This test can be painful and uncomfortable.

The aim is to evaluate the strength of your muscles. The therapist will then do the same procedure on your abdomen. After that, they will ask you questions about your symptoms.
