which is placed over the certificate to make it authentic

The apostille is a signature which is placed over the certificate to make it authentic and official. The document is officially authenticated and certified by the notary public. After the apostille, the certificate becomes authentic and official, making it ready for any kind of usage including financial, diplomatic, business and legal affairs.

An apostille is not necessary for a diploma or certificate in ÖSYM, although the certificate is usually issued by the school and university. The ÖSYM diploma can only be used for educational Apostille in Turkey purposes (except for the University of Göztepe), while the certificate can be used for any purpose.

For an Apostille you need to apply for an Apostille in person to one of the two Apostille services available, or send a stamped and signed application to a service providing Apostille services.

The services are provided by the Turkish Embassy/High Commission in your country and are free of charge for documents from outside the EU. The only exception is documents from Belgium, France, Germany and United Kingdom, for which you will need to pay a fee.
