The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is an eligibility test which acts as an certification for the Teachers. The exam will be conducted by all the state government bodies before recruiting the teachers. TET Exam Full Form

The TET exam stands for Teacher Eligibility Test. This exam is very important for people who want to become teachers in India. Passing the TET exam is required to get a teaching job in government schools.

The TET Exams like UTET, UPTET, HPTET, TSTET, APTET etc, are conducted across the country by the State Level Education Boards. Below are the important TET Examinations –

TET Exam Eligibility Criteria 2024

The eligibility criteria for the TET exam are different for Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is for candidates who want to teach at the primary level (classes 1-5). To be eligible for Paper 1, candidates need to have the required educational qualifications to teach at the primary level. Paper 2 is for candidates who want to teach at the upper primary level (classes 6-8). The eligibility criteria for Paper 2 are different, as they are for the qualifications needed to teach older students at the upper primary level.

Primary Teacher

  • Have passed the Senior Secondary or equivalent exam with a minimum of 50% marks, and also have a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.). Candidates who are currently pursuing the D.El.Ed. degree and have not completed it yet are also eligible to apply.
  • Have completed the Senior Secondary or equivalent exam with a minimum of 50% marks, and also have a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.). Candidates who are in the final year of the B.El.Ed. program can also apply.
  • Have completed their Graduation and have passed or are currently appearing for the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.).

Upper Primary Teacher

  • Candidates must have completed their Graduation securing a minimum of 50% marks, and have either passed or are appearing in the 1st year of the B.Ed. program.
  • Candidates who hold a degree or are appearing in the final year of a 4-year integrated course such as BSc & B.Ed. or BA & B.Ed. are also eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who have passed Class 12 and have completed the 4-year B.El.Ed. (Bachelor of Elementary Education) degrees are eligible. This includes candidates who are currently pursuing the final year of the B.El.Ed. program.
  • Candidates who hold a Graduate degree and have either passed or are appearing in a 2-year Diploma program are also eligible.
