Why Everyone Loves the Tenacious, the Definitive Spyderco Pocket Knife

There are a couple models that probably come to mind when you think of a Spyderco pocket knife.

The Dragonfly, the Manix, the Paramilitary, and the Delica probably stand out. As does, for many people the Spyderco Tenacious.

Everyone loves the Spyderco Tenacious, from LEOs to first responders to EDC junkies.

That’s understandable, considering what the knife offers.

It is available in multiple different colors, patterns, and configurations. It’s available with either a straight edge, a combi-edge, or a fully serrated blade. It typically has G10 scales, but a lightweight version, with FRN scales, is also available.

Everyman’s Tenacious has a full-flat ground 8Cr13MoV steel.

Is it a super steel? No.

Does it sharpen well, hold a decent edge, resist corrosion serviceable, and present a low risk of chipping and rolling? All yes.

Super steel it may not be, but it works for what it’s worth, and the price point is extremely attractive, too, since it is more affordable than many other Spyderco knives.

Other versions are available, though, such as a model with a CPM-S35VN steel blade. You can have your cake and eat it too.

The blade profile is super-friendly for lots of things: slicing, draw cuts, batoning, carving, shaving, piercing, drilling, you name it. The vaguely leaf-shaped profile is good for a lot.

The 3.39” blade also straddles that perfect middle ground of “small and light enough for EDC” and “large enough for aggressive cutting and hard use.”

Plus, with three different edge configurations, there’s a Tenacious for you, whether your primary objective is cutting through rope or cutting through boxes.

The Tenacious is also less aggressively humpbacked than other Spydies, making it more widely useful, and, more comfortable in the grip. The gentle thumb ramp and adequate jimping provide a sure grip in basically all conditions.

The blade is also available in a black oxide finish that is not only corrosion-resistant but non-reflective, which some users prefer.

Deployment is a dream. The Spydie-hole is ambidextrous friendly and allows for super-fidget-friendly “Spydie-flicks.”

As far as lock type, it doesn’t have one of those fancy compression locks or other modern lock styles. It’s a basic liner lock – but you know what? It works, it’s strong and secure, and it’s easy to use.

Carry is what you want it to be. You can remove the clip and free-float the Tenacious in a pocket (G10 versions are only a shade over 4oz, FRN versions are under 4) or you can carry it on a belt, pack, pocket, or any other way you want. The clip is also ambi-friendly and 4-way reversible.

You know the expression. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Handle ergonomics are top-tier, too. Whether you prefer FRN or G10 hardly matters. Both are extremely durable, corrosion-proof, and non-absorbent. They’re basically indestructible.

As far as comfort in the grip, the Tenacious won’t win any pageants for beauty, but it might take home some accolades for practicality. And that’s what a service or EDC knife should offer.

So, in a nutshell, that’s what people love about the Tenacious.

It’s durable, practical, sized just right, has a multi-purpose grind and blade profile, and most importantly, is surprisingly affordable.
